Lego Explore Teams
FIRST Lego League Explore
FLL Explore targets ages 5-7 and used to be called FLL Jr. See more about the programs and levels here. At this level, youth learn about an important topic such as energy, shipping, space or buildings. They progress through individual and teamwork challenges, including building with Lego, adding a motor, and adding a sensor. The culminating project is a Lego structure that models their idea for solving a problem related to the topic. The model usually has a motor and a sensor incorporated in it, and is controlled by programming the youth build on an electronic tablet. When possible, youth attend an expo, often at a larger robotics competition, and tell their story to judges.
Teams are at least 3 youth, and a maximum of 6. New River Robotics helps with kits, team registration, coach training (NO programming experience needed!) and all the questions you might have about starting a short program for introducing robotics to early elementary students.
New River Robotics Association supports these local teams:
#7693, Christiansburg Rec Center - offered in the Fall and Spring, usually 1 day a week for 8 weeks. See the Rec Center brochure under Youth Community Programs.
#26010, Little Pandas
#28663 Einstein Team
